Keep the tattoo clean

First 24 Hours: Cover your tattoo with a sterile bandage applied by your tattoo artist. You can remove the bandage after 24 hours.

Washing: Gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented soap. Use only your hands—avoid sponges or cloths that can irritate the skin.

Pat dry

Gently pat the tattoo dry with a clean, soft towel or paper towel. Avoid rubbing, as this can damage the newly formed skin.

Apply ointment

After washing, apply a thin layer of a recommended aftercare cream or ointment suggested by your tattoo artist. Avoid products with alcohol or fragrance, as they can irritate the skin. Repeat this process 2-3 times daily for the first 3-5 days.

Avoid moisture

Keep the tattoo dry for the first 2-3 weeks. Avoid swimming, saunas, and prolonged water exposure. When showering, ensure that the tattoo isn’t directly hit by water.

Avoid sunlight

Protect your tattoo from direct sunlight, especially during the healing period. If you’ll be outdoors, cover the tattoo with clothing or use a high-SPF sunscreen once it has healed.

Avoid scratching and scabs

During the healing process, your tattoo may itch or form scabs. Do not scratch or pick at it, as this can lead to infection or damage to the design.

Healing process

Tattoos typically heal within 2-4 weeks, but this can vary based on your skin type and care. Continue to care for your tattoo even after it’s healed by using moisturizer and sunscreen.

Watch for signs of infection

Keep an eye out for signs of infection, such as excessive redness, swelling, pus, or an unusual odor. If you notice any of these symptoms, contact a doctor or your tattoo artist immediately.

By following these aftercare instructions, you can ensure that your new tattoo heals properly and remains beautiful for years to come. If you have any questions or concerns about your tattoo, feel free to contact us at Ink&Needles. We’re here to help!
