Keep the piercing clean

First, always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching your piercing to minimize the risk of infection. Clean the piercing area daily with a mild, unscented soap and lukewarm water. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, or harsh antiseptics, as these can irritate the skin.

Use saline solution

To promote healing, it’s recommended to use a sterile saline solution to clean the piercing area. You can purchase a ready-made saline solution or make your own by mixing 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized salt in 1 cup of warm water. Dip a clean cotton swab or gauze in the solution and gently apply it to the piercing area.

Avoid touching and playing

Try to avoid unnecessary touching of your piercing, as this can introduce bacteria. It’s also important not to play with the jewelry, as this can delay healing.

Be mindful of clothing and equipment

Avoid wearing tight clothing that may rub against the piercing area, especially during the healing period. Be cautious with equipment such as headphones or hats that may come into contact with your piercing.

Avoid baths and swimming

For the first few weeks after getting a piercing, you should avoid swimming in pools, the ocean, or public baths. Prolonged exposure to water can increase the risk of infection.

Healing process

The healing period varies depending on the type of piercing. Generally, most piercings heal within 4-6 weeks, but some can take several months. It’s important to be patient and continue care until the piercing area is fully healed.

Signs of infection

Be alert for signs of infection, such as excessive redness, swelling, pus, or an unusual odor. If you experience these symptoms, contact a doctor or your piercer as soon as possible.

Changing jewelry properly

If you plan to change jewelry, it’s recommended to wait until the piercing is fully healed. When you’re ready to switch, make sure to use high-quality jewelry and follow your piercer’s instructions.

By following these aftercare instructions, you can ensure that your new piercing heals properly and remains beautiful. If you have any questions or concerns about your piercing, feel free to contact us at Ink&Needles. We are here to support you throughout your piercing journey!
