Two young entrepreneurs, Kasper Gregersen and Casper Pedersen, have found a unique way to combine their passion for history with their desire to build a sustainable business. Through their company, Mycanvas.dk, they sell posters featuring historical photographs of Copenhagen from around the year 1900. From train departures at the Central Station in 1914 to Tivoli’s main entrance in 1904, they are bringing the city’s past back to life in a way that appeals to both history enthusiasts and modern home decorators.
The two partners, 27 and 25 years old, began their journey together through a shared interest in entrepreneurship and a deep fascination with Copenhagen’s historical buildings. Their goal is to highlight the special charm of older buildings at a time when modern construction is often dominated by concrete and minimalism. According to Kasper and Casper, old buildings contain more detail and character, something they are eager to share with the rest of the world.
So far, they have selected 21 historical photographs, which have been restored with the help of a professional photographer and graphic designer. Many of the images were discovered at the National Archives, where they obtained the rights to use them commercially. For Kasper and Casper, it’s not just about the photographs – they also want to tell the stories behind the scenes. Each poster comes with a description of the location’s history, giving buyers a deeper understanding of the image’s significance.
Their unique posters have already gained positive attention from well-known personalities and local businesses, which have hung the pictures in their shops and cafés. Although Kasper and Casper still work other jobs alongside their startup, they hope that Mycanvas.dk can one day become their full-time occupation. For them, it’s not just about business – it’s about a mission to preserve and share Copenhagen’s rich history in a new and inspiring way.
